3 year old filly Pawn to Queen has been imported as an Active Racer, though with an eye to the shed (likely as a match for Swain's Gold). This impeccably bred daughter of Run Missy Run (we just love Missy blood here at CF!) is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Valley of Roses and, though she arrives injured, we expect she'll do well for us. She was bred by Bally Doyle (one of the top breeders in the game) and sold at auction by Hey Buddy. We have bids up on another filly and a mare with the mare expected to close Friday.
Roll of Thunder has been sold under Private contract to Bunnyhill. Hope he does as well for them as he did for us!
5 year old mare Crazy Punctuation has been purchased at auction and should be shipping in shortly. This flashy white daughter of the Great Memcay from the well-bred Alphabet Soup mare Exoterra should make a fine addition to our herd. She is tentatively scheduled to Civil War for a 2016 foal.
3 year old filly Facia de Tola has been received from Hutton's Horse Haven in exchange for yearling colt Big Tail. Picked up as a brood prospect, she arrives as an active Racer. She is an Italy-bred from Champion Turf lines and looks like she might be just starting to come into her own. We have yet to receive a bad horse from Jim and we expect this one to perform as well as the others.
7 year old filly Aquia Harbor joins us direct from EV. Something of an impulse buy, this fabulously bred maiden was acquired as a brood prospect. Though this will be her last race season we expect her still have a few good runs left in the tank.
We've received an insane offer for Prince Stephen and are undecided whether to accept; we've also requested details on a colt posted for private sale by Chiquita. 8 year old brood Latin Jewel has arrived safely from Auction and settled in nicely at Barn 3 and we've received an offer for Astrapios that we are considering.
Dangold has arrived from public auction and joins the ladies in Barn 3. She should make an exemplary addition to our herd. We've also won the bidding for Enthralled and are very excited. This lovely white mare is an outcross to our current whites as well as being a close relative of Revotic. Her sire Rampage is by Alydar-Serena's Song and thus a 1/2 brother to the Great Revenge (Stehpen Got Even-Serena's Song) - he even shares the same golden coat! Enthralled has been purchased as a brood prospect and should ship in shortly.
In perusing this weeks catalog it was noted that Revotic's dam Exotic has been consigned. Torn between her and another mare, Exotic's reserve is actually within our budget and a bid has been placed. We are not the only barn interested in her, however our main competition also has a bid on her latest filly.
Racing News:
Week 1: Congratulations to Unforgiv'n for her Track Record win at Shenandoah! Carrying 93 pounds, she set a PSR of 111 over 1 3/8 miles of Fast Dirt. She'll likely carry more next time, but her next stop will be a G3 on her way to Churchill Downs in May. If she continues to perform as well she'll join Perfect Summer and Perfect Charmer in our "TC Hopeful" String. After all the flak we received over "that crap mare" Revotic we couldn't be prouder at her first-born's stellar performance.
Prince Stephen and Light Touch didn't do anywhere near as well this week, with the former being bred for late handicaps (and suffering from IJS) and the latter being outclassed.
Update: Upon review, Sassy did NOT set a TR at Shenandoah. She did, however, finish 1 second off the true TR set by Faldo in 2010. We are still very, very proud of her run.
Week 2: Perfect Summer, our 2yo Stable Star, has performed once again to claim the G3 Affectionately Stakes at Aqueduct in her first start of the season. She finished 0:00.44 off the TR set by Spanish Midnight in 2003 and 0:01.30 off the WR set by her half-sister Blackfoot just last year. Summer did this running against a field of older, established, mares - mostly age 4 and 5 with 1 other 3 y/o. Like Sassy, we expect Summer to carry more next time though we are very confident she is up to the task. With this win she gains a spot on numerous leader-boards: KY Derby (14), BC Dirt Mile (10), BC Distaff (8), and Top 3 y/o - Season (10).
Sultan seems to be following his sister as a later bloomer, though he clearly did not like either Shenandoah or the slow going. He broke well, ran well, and came back sound. He might just need some more time; it'll likely be a bit before he sees his next start. Still very proud of his effort.
Livewire surprised, but only mildly, with a 2nd at Tampa. She posted PSR=85 over 6f of fast dirt and was topped by Fin's MGSW colt. I thought she might get a check, but I didn't expect her to perform quite this well! She came back sound and prancing and seemed to enjoy the atmosphere so she'll likely start again sooner rather then later.
Week 3: A G3 win for Swain's Gold! Going away over Soft Turf to win by 4 3/4 lengths, he picked up qualifying points for the BC Mile (Tf). This also breaks the half million mark for him and places our stable in the Top 30 for the season. Perfect Charmer was horribly outclassed and will get another chance after a nice rest at the farm.
Week 4: 4: 0-0-1-1-1 31,600. Summer got bumped, but pulled another 112 and in 0.12 faster, too. Very happy with her 3rd. Roo came in 4th in her first run. Prince finished 7th with PSR=90. He might be able to get 6f...nice rest for him. Same for Roo, very pleased with her first start. Sassy...Sassy is getting a new jockey. She ran her heart out in an early speed duel to finish 5th of 9. She'll get a rest then another crack at G-level.
Week 5: 4: 0-1-0-2-1 41,100. Analysis coming soon; includes a G1 4th for Swain's Gold, 4th for Perfect Charmer, 2nd Light Touch, and 5th Cajun Sunrise (1st ever start). Breaks 6-digits for Light Touch and posts Lucky's best PSR to date. Scratch for Bluegrass Thorn who will try again next week.
Week 6: 4: 3-0-0 525,000. Highlight: Perfect Summer earning her blacktype in the G1 Florida Derby topping War of the Lillies and a field of colts in the process. This is CF's First Ever G1 Win, made even sweeter by a homebred from our first crop being the one to pull it off. Amaterasu and Bluegrass Thorn also won, though Unforgiv'n didn't seem to care for the "good" Fair Grounds finishing last of 5 with her 2nd slowest PSR to date. Circle F is now #25 on the Top 100 Stables-Season list, stud Perfect Goer is #21 on for Top 100 Stallions-Season, and filly Summer is #4 for Top 3 Year Olds-Season and #2 for Fillies (War of the Lillies is current #1 Top 3 y/o-filly and #3 Top 3y/o-season, the colts in 1 and 2 overall 3 y/o are both turf specialists and unlikely to appear at Churchill in May).
Week 7-8: No wins to report. Everyone ran well and came back sound. Perfect Summer is pre-entered to the KY Derby (running week 10) and will square off against current Top Filly Hagrid's Backhand.
Week 9: 5: 1-0-1-3 $45,450. Highlights include a win for Livewire, 3rd for Amy, 4th for Thorn, Lucky, and Pawn to Queen. Summer is pre-entered to the Derby; Sultan is also pre-entered at the Downs albeit a few days later. Additional pre-entries see Sunny at Shenandoah and Goldy in a G3, though his entry may be changed for one closer to home. The KY Oaks was Quinella'd by Chickensnack with a pair of fillies by the great Revenge. Many Congrats to them and all the other winners this week!
Week 10: 3: 0-1-1 $137,500 Summer finished 3rd in the Derby behind Hagrid's Backhand and Om. She got off a step late and had to fight her way through traffic to show with a fast closing photo against Theorist. Many congrats to Golden Acres for their win and for being the first Aussie barn to get the KY Derby. Many sympathies to the Win and Place stables as both their runners came back limping; hope it's only minor! Spartan has stated an intent to bypass the Preakness, but we expect to meet Theorist again in the Belmont. We may have missed the Roses, but we expect Summer to bring home the Susan's. Goldy finished an honest 2nd, Sultan is out until at least late fall, and Sunny scratched off slop. Week 11 sees 6 pre-entries including Summer's Preakness bid. Pimlico here we come!
Breeding News:
Baby Greyhound has been imported from Michigan to further our breeding goals. We liked her when she came to see PG a few seasons back and we still like her. She'll get another crack at PG later on, but 2016 looks to be Bomnbed Out's season for her. We are also watching 3 mares and 1 stallion at EV for later acquisition.
Crazy Punctuation has been purchased at auction and will ship in from Australia to join our mare band. This lovely white daughter of the Great Memcay out of the Alphabet Soup mare Exoterra should make a fabulous addition to our herd and is tentatively booked to our own Civil War.
Milennium Tower has been tentatively booked to Vampirical at Spartan Racing. Revotic has been booked to Yaeger at Olmo Dorato.
Swain's Gold will be joining Barn 4 along with a stud we're watching at EV. Light Touch and Livewire will be moving to Barn 3 with Light Touch to see Civil War.
Recent acquisition Aquia Harbor will be retiring at season's close and will be bred to our own Swain's Gold. Facia de Tola and Pawn to Queen are under daily evaluation; their status will be posted as soon as it is decided. Latin Jewel moves directly to Barn 3 from Auction. We've been watching her for some time and are very happy to have her finally join our herd. This is another who will likely be seeing Goldy for a 2016 foal.
G3 winner Dangold has been purchased at auction and ships directly to Barn 3. Though a match for her is as yet undetermined, it's probable she'll be seeing Likeable American at some point. MGSW Mischief has been leased from EV and booked to Likeable American for a 2016 foal; we are also in negotiations on a second list mare. Active Racer Enthralled has been purchased as a brood prospect. Whether she moves to Barn 3 at the end of the 2015 season depends on how she runs for us.We have also placed a bid on the proven brood Exotic and hope to reunite her with her daughter Revotic.
2015 Pairings have been announced! Find them listed on the main section of Barn 3. We are expecting 15 foals this season, though we still have one last mare to purchase. We are very excited about this mare and will announce just as soon as her acquisition is finalized. She will be seeing Perfect Goer for her 2016 foal.
