Powers Mirage (USA, 2015)
15.3hh Bay filly by High Chaparral x Piavonic (Scenic)
===============================
Trainer's Notes: bred for turf route....she might be able to handle dirt, but I'm starting to doubt her stamina.
Owner's Notes: List breed. Sadler's Wells cross (2x3), Enicks give ratings from D to F (depending on source) but it has 2 stakes winners (one in Italy the other in Germany). I figure the dams sire lines will help balance with top being Mill Reef and the bottom being Round Table. The main difference between VCDH and Miri is in dropping 1 copy of Native Dancer and adding the Mill Reef.
Bloodstock manager: Piavonic's best IRL foal to date is Von Costa de Hero, essentially a 3/4 brother to Miri. VCdH's sire Encosta de Lago is a grandson of Fairy Bridge through Fairy King. High Chaparral is also a grandson of Fairy Bridge, though through Sadler's Wells.
Family 32 which includes Belmont-winning filly Ruthless; rare family both IRL and in game.
Special Notes: 3rd and last foal of Piavonic in game. Only filly of Piavonic in game. 9th of crop.
Fun Fact: Named for a horse featured in a work of fiction; a writing that truly spoke to me. Barn name of Miri is in homage to Star Trek.
Miri and Star were born nearly a full week after the others, in fact they were the last two of the season for the entire game.

His first crop of Australasian bred three year olds scored wins in a number of Australasia's most prestigious races, including the G1 VRC and AJC Derby's, the G1 Cox Plate and the G1 Randwick Guineas. The deeds of his progeny catapulted him to the top of the second season sires list while also making him the leading sire of three-year-olds in Australia." "HIGH CHAPARRAL (IRE) (1999 c. by Sadler's Wells (USA)), Top rated 3yr old in England & Ireland in 2002 (11-13f.), Top rated older horse in Ireland in 2003 (9.5-10.5f. & 11-13f.), won 10 races at 2 to 4 years and £3,440,246 including Vodafone Derby Stakes, Epsom Downs, Gr.1, Budweiser Irish Derby, Curragh, Gr.1, Ireland The Food Island Champion Stakes, Leopardstown, Gr.1, John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf, Arlington Inter, Gr.1 (twice), Racing Post Trophy, Doncaster, Gr.1, Royal Whip Stakes, Curragh, Gr.2, Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes, Leopardstown, Gr.3 and Ballysax Stakes, Leopardstown, L., placed twice including third in P. de l'Arc de Triomphe-Lucien Barriere, Longchamp, Gr.1 (twice); sire; full brother to Helena Molony (IRE)" Pedigree Notes: "High Chaparral is one of eight Gr.1 winners that Sadler’s Wells has sired from daughters of Darshaan and the potency of his classic bloodlines has been amply demonstrated. He had six Group winners in 2009 and his progeny from his first two crops have been placed in the Oaks, Irish Derby and St Leger. Two juveniles from his third crop have already been Gr.1-placed. The vast majority of High Chaparral’s stakes horses are inbred 3x4 to NORTHERN DANCER, and some have a third line to this great stallion in the fifth generation. He has sired the Gr.3 winner Above Average from a DANEHILL mare, and the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile second Lady Darshaan is out of a daughter of GREEN DESERT. CAPE CROSS, a son of GREEN DESERT, is the broodmare sire of Gr.2 winner The Miniver Rose. Sadler’s Wells is a full-brother to FAIRY KING and three-parts-brother to NUREYEV. Beach Bunny, who went very close to beating Dar Re Mi in the Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes, is out of a mare by Nureyev’s son PEINTRE CELEBRE. The Epsom Oaks third High Heeled is out of a grand-daughter of FAIRY KING. The high-class Golden Sword is another inbred 3x4 to Northern Dancer, his second line coming via SALSE. A mating with a mare by STORM BIRD’s fast son MUJADIL resulted in the smart juvenile Joanna. Perhaps mares by STORM CAT and GIANT’S CAUSEWAY will also suit. The NIJINSKY line is represented by Unsung Heroine, who is out of a grand-daughter of CAERLEON. LYPHARD sired the second dam of the useful Redwood. Like the very effective stallion In The Wings, High Chaparral represents Sadler’s Wells’ famously successful partnership with mares from the Shirley Heights line. Breeders have been keen to try adding further MILL REEF blood and we have already seen the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile runner-up Lady Darshaan with 3x3 inbreeding to DARSHAAN and the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris third Magadan with 4x3 inbreeding to SHIRLEY HEIGHTS. Others with two lines of MILL REEF include the St Leger second Unsung Heroine. RIVERMAN and his son IRISH RIVER also feature among the sires of the second dams of High Chaparral’s black-type horses, including the Gr.3 juvenile winner Joanna. The MR. PROSPECTOR line is also shaping up encouragingly. The very smart Magadan is out of a MACHIAVELLIAN mare and the very useful Redwood is out of a WOODMAN mare. Although High Chaparral’s second dam is a top-class daughter of Kris, there is every reason to think he will suit mares with more SHARPEN UP blood. WARNING had a fine record with Sadler’s Wells mares, so it isn’t surprising that High Chaparral’s Italian 2,000 Guineas winner Senlis is out of a WARNING mare. In The Wings had Group winners out of mares by three sons of BLUSHING GROOM and High Chaparral has 2009 two-year-old Listed winner Lady Lupus out of a RAINBOW QUEST mare. Mares with TOP VILLE blood are other prime contenders. They produced three Gr.1 winners to Sadler’s Wells, including the exceptional Montjeu and Yeats, and two Group winners to In The Wings. In The Wings did well with mares from the TURN-TO line, siring Tillerman from a ROBERTO mare and Singspiel from a HALO mare. Several of High Chaparral’s good winners have two lines of HAIL TO REASON in the fourth or fifth generations." Mill Reef: DP 19-16-12-5-0, DI 3.73, CD 0.94; pts 52 Highlights (1): In England: 1970 Dewhurst S (7f), 1971 The Derby (12f), 1971 Eclipse S (10f), 1971 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth S (12f), 1972 Coronation Cup (12f); In France: 1971 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (12f), 1972 Prix Ganay (10½f) Highlights (2): Won twelve races incl. Coventry Stakes, Gimcrack Stakes, Imperial Stakes, Dewhurst Stakes, Greenham Stakes, Derby Stakes, Eclipse Stakes, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Prix Ganay, Coronation Cup. |
Piavonic (1995)
Dark Bay or Brown mare by Scenic x Piave Girl (Brave Salute) 35 Starts: 9 - 8 - 2, A$629,600 Blacktype producer Media Excerpts: "Piavonic defeated a 6 y/o Sunline in the 6f (1200m) Manikato Stakes (AUS G1, 2001), heading in at 20-1. Piavonic was one of only two Victoria-trained runners to capture the Manikato in all the first decade of this century (the other being Miss Andretti in 2006). Her colt by Encosta De Lago sold for $1.2m at Yearling Auction. Von Costa de Hero is the best juvenile who ever cost a million dollars or more as a yearling in Australian racing history. The hulking colt was a $1.2 million purchase, and his run when a half-head second in the Golden Slipper earned him a rating better than six of the last ten winners of the race." "Australian “Horse of the Month” for August 2002, she was a finalist for Horse of The Year. She, along with She's Archie, was bested by Australia's Champion Sprinter Sudurka." About her Trainer, Tony Noonan: "One of the best horses to be trained by Tony was the Scenic mare, Piavonic. One of this mares claim to fame was beating the Champion Mare Sunline in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at MooneeValley. Not only did Sunline have her colours lowered that day, but Group 1 winners Falvelon and Marstic, as well as the dual Group 2 Winner Weasel Will, were left in the wake of Piavonic powerful finishing burst. This win gave Tony his 1st Group 1 win as a trainer. Piavonic has gone on to succeed in the breeding barn producing several quality gallopers including current star Von Costa De Hero." "Scenic (DI 3.57, CD 1.00): Scenic (ex Idyllic) receives pure speed influences passed down from Bold Ruler (a Brilliant/Intermediate chef-de-race) and What A Pleasure (a Brilliant chef-de-race), through Foolish Pleasure, and from Raise A Native (also a Brilliant chef) through Where You Lead. Again it is solely through the influence of Sadler's Wells that Scenic got further than sprint distances! 1984 Champion Miler in France.
Leading UK Sire by earnings, 1990, 1992-2002.
Designated Chefs-de-race (C/S)
Sadler's Wells, of course, won his seventh consecutive sires' championship (and eighth in all) in 1998 (by total money won, Great Britain & Ireland) - beating Alzao and Nashwan into second and third places - despite the fact that his 1998 3 yo crop was less than half the number produced in 1997. He also won the 2 yo sires' championship, stepping up from sixth place in 1997. He finished third in the maternal grandsires list, the area in which he has received most criticism in the past. He also won the sire's championship in France."
